The hook point undergoes chemical etching followed by normalizing and tempering. This is a standard process for Kona jig hooks: the former ensures sharpness, while the latter maintains the steel’s inherent toughness, making the hook both hard and resistant to breakage when it strikes a fish. Another often overlooked aspect of jig hooks is electroplating. Kona has its own electroplating plant, which is crucial for hooks that are constantly immersed in seawater. Inadequate plating will result in rust spots after only a few uses, reducing strength.
