We’ve shared some sea fishing techniques, specifically how tides and water clarity affect fishing when using raft fishing and nearshore fishing. Next, we’ll share some other sea fishing techniques.
Regarding the main fish species recently caught, we can prioritize fishing methods and baits that target their habits to increase our catch. For example, during sea bass season, we can use live shrimp for lure fishing in areas where sea bass are known for their aggressive feeding habits. Alternatively, during mudskipper season, we can use float fishing with small pieces of shrimp meat or powdered bait and small hooks.
When fishing nearshore, choosing the right spot is crucial. It’s recommended to find a spot with waves lapping against rocks, stable currents or currents, and abundant algae and barnacles on the shore. When there are many organisms attached to the rocks on the shore, the constant pounding of waves creates a large number of bubbles and debris from the attached organisms. At this time, the nearby water is rich in oxygen, and a large amount of food gathers near the coast, forming a natural fish-gathering spot that attracts sea fish to feed. At the same time, fish have a habit of following the current, which reduces water resistance and energy consumption when swimming. When a large number of small fish drift with the current, it will attract predatory fish species such as grouper, sea bass, and moray eel to hunt, increasing the chances of catching a fish.
Furthermore, the influence of light on sea fish is crucial during sea fishing. Low light conditions are more conducive to fish concealment and hunting. Therefore, when fishing near the shore, from dusk until sunrise, fish tend to be more active, especially on cloudy or rainy days. Those who frequently fish at sea should be well aware of this; the catch and the likelihood of catching larger fish are higher during this time compared to a sunny day. This is one reason why many fishermen set out to sea in the evening and retrieve their nets the following morning.

3. Sea Fishing Techniques: Platform Fishing
Many people only know traditional fishing and float fishing when fishing in the sea, believing that platform fishing is unsuitable. However, platform fishing equipment is currently the mainstream equipment used by people inland. Is platform fishing equipment suitable for sea fishing? I believe that platform fishing techniques are suitable for sea fishing techniques, as there are no fixed rules in fishing. When using platform fishing for sea fish, one can fish for mid-to-upper-level fish in mid-water or bottom-dwelling fish in bottom water. When fishing for bottom-dwelling fish, it is recommended to place the sinker at the bottom and the hook on the swivel, above the sinker. This helps to better fix the line in a certain area, while the hook can drift with the current or suspend above the seabed, making it easier for fish to pull the leader after taking the bait, causing a reaction from the float. This method also works in flowing water; a longer leader increases the bait’s range of movement, attracting fish over a wider area.

4. Sea Fishing Techniques: Bait Selection
When fishing near the shore, different baits can be chosen depending on the fish’s diet. For omnivorous fish such as mudskippers, pufferfish, and sea bream, powdered or meaty baits can be used. For aggressive fish such as groupers, shrimp meat, squid chunks, or fish chunks can be used. When using fish meat as bait, avoid using the meat of carnivorous fish or their own kind; prioritize small herbivorous fish such as sardines and mullet. When targeting large, aggressive fish such as moray eels, it’s recommended to use live fish or shrimp, especially injured small fish and shrimp, as these are more likely to trigger their predatory instincts.
In addition to the above, near-shore fishing is also affected by the shore environment, depending on the water depth. When the water depth is less than 2 meters, it’s advisable to minimize loud talking, throwing stones or heavy objects into the water, etc., as sea fish are highly sensitive to changes in their surroundings; unusual sounds can easily cause them to panic and flee. In deeper waters, these effects on the fish can be avoided.
These sea fishing tips are intended to be helpful. Finally, I wish everyone good fishing spots when they go out to sea, catching a ton of fish! And for those fishing in lakes and reservoirs, may you catch large carp and crucian carp, and avoid going home empty-handed.
